OE Tage in Osijek – Part IV
Jeunesses Musicales Croatia
After the gallery exhibition we moved to the Archeological Museum (which is just around the corner in Tvrda) to see and more so hear Sigi Feigl conducting the big band Jeunesses Musicales Croatia. The composer Kresimir Herceg was also attending the performance. First let’s start with some official stuff, like … waiting … small talk and finally (short) speeches. I have to say again that while having official nimbus all events allowed us audience to really enjoy the program. This makes up for very friendly and warm memories.
Just a few remarks for the next series: The one thing is obvious anyway, that this concert was very well visited. But the next thing I remember when looking at the photos is hopefully also noticeable to the beholder: that the atmosphere was truly comfortable and that there was a blind understanding and non verbal communication between the actors. I felt that so when shooting and I wanted to capture some of this feeling. Now I am not the first and best to judge my success, but I hope that the photos convey a bit of this evening’s mood.
Last but not least: look at Sigi’s jacket! It is amazing how it reflects the light. And remember this is ISO 2500 or so – you gotta see that cool gem in reality! He told me after the show that he bought it in Venice at a designer shop, but this was seven years ago IIRC.
And now let the pictures do their effects.
Somewhere in between the pieces I also wanted some audience, and first came Davor. As mentioned in a previous post, he was there as an internationally renowned jazz journalist, shoots his own photos with the famous E-1 and had to leave the next day for Vienna, covering another performance at “Porgy und Bess”. This was the second time he took a picture of mine. Meanwhile the end was nearing and I knew there was a nice setting from the right side of the stage, Sigi and the band framing the singer. So I had to change sides again, and there it was.
Group shot, Snježana interviewing Sigi and the lovely singer (sorry I don’t know the name yet) with her lovely bag. I have a fable for bags and jackets, and cameras and lenses, and pens and the texture of paper… Maybe I should get a live.
Well, and even someone signing the guestbook… this I call a successful evening!
Next will be a few shots of the following night flight and then comes the reading of Hermann and Maria.
